Go on an April Neighbourhood Walking Tour

Take in fresh air, and admire the countryside views of Japan with us.

There seems to be a sudden change in the air here in Usa city. With the warmer temperatures come blossoms and flowers of all shapes and colours, and the rice fields laid bare during the winter are now lush with thick, green waves of wheat. So, I believe it’s high time to do another tour of the neighbourhood.

Kyushu is well over a month ahead of its bloom compared to Vancouver, so it feels like a treat to be able to walk around without a sweater on. One of the schools I teach at is a 5-minute walk from my apartment. Along the way, there are abandoned buildings settling amongst newly built homes. It’s a mishmash of modern homes with carefully tended gardens and houses with old tile roofs caving into themselves. That being said, they don’t seem to mind each other’s company.

On another day, I decided to take a 30 minute walk west from the apartment. On an earlier drive, I’d noticed a grand, traditional house with moat and all, and I wanted to take a closer look.

  1. Love the pictures. Wish we were there. Next time you go past that hill, take a picture of the sign posts and send them.
